The Republic of Azerbaijan is located at the junction of Europe and Asia, the South Caucasus. In the north and northwest of the country are located Caucasus Mountains. In the south there are Talish (Hirkan) mountains. On the east the country is washed by the Caspian Sea. The territory of the republic is 86.6 thousand sq. km. Azerbaijan Republic is the largest state on the Caucasus. On the north Azerbaijan verges on the Russian Federation, northwest Georgia, on the south-west upon Turkey and Armenia, on the south upon Iran.

 Occupying a relatively small territory, Azerbaijan has unique natural and climatic features. Out of 11 climatic zones of our planet 9 are presented in territory of Azerbaijan: from subtropics to  alpine meadows. The average annual temperature - + 13.7 ° C, the average temperature in January - + 1.7 ° C, the average temperature in July - + 27.9 ° C.

It is possible to identify 4 main parts in relief of Azerbaijan: the Greater Caucasus (part of the Main Caucasian Ridge), Small Caucasian Ridge, Nakhichevan and the Kura-Araz lowland, Talish Mountains and Lenkoran lowland.

Rivers and lakes.

In the country runs more than 1,000 rivers. The largest river - the Kura. Azerbaijan is famous for its numerous mineral waters. The most famous Istisu, Turshsu, Badamli. There is no any freshwater lakes in Azerbaijan, but there are a lot of small lakes - their number reaches 250.

Vegetable world.

 On the territory of the republic there are more than 4,200 species of plants. Some of them are unique and characteristic only for Azerbaijan. Eldar pine, silk acacia, lignum vitae. Mountain forests are attractive for recreation and tourism.

 Animal world.

The fauna of Azerbaijan is diverse. There are more than 12,000 species of animals and birds. On the territory of the country inhabit bears, boars, gazelles, wolves, foxes, hares and others. Diverse and the world of birds. Only in Kyzyl Agach Reserve during the year inhabit more than 250 species of birds.
